I get grief for my ax1200, but with seven years on the warranty it's almost future proof! With Ivy and Kepler this year I may go real big so why not get more power than you need? I never understood people griping that a PSU is overkill - I thought that was the point??!?!?! biggrin.gif

It's the same thing with car engines. It's not healthy to run it on too low [rpm for motors, power draw for psu]. Also, the efficiency isn't at its best when you're only using 1/3 of psu's capacity.

Yeh that's correct Biz, thats when they run most efficiently.

Also

Bad new and good news?

I got jibbed on my two sapphire cards... and they only were going to ship one out...

So I had to spend another $100 on top of that and switch over to Gigabyte 7970's X 2. So total cost is now 4200 AU. God damn expensive tongue.gif

I can barely wait though, it's intense. It should be shipped today and be here hopefully within 5 days. /drool

Because larger power supplys are inefficient at low loads. Theres a sticky on it, by phaedrus or ehume but its got alot of good info. Figuring out what you need and where it lands you in terms of effiency can not only save money on your electric bill, but actually provides your computer with cleaner steadier power. Your power supply is close to 500 watts too big and if you look at the ax1200s chart youll see why an ax/hx 750 or 850 wouldve been better suited to your computer.

^^ Meh, let Sapphire keep their cards. Gigabyte 7970's look a lot better anyway tongue.gif While you wait for 'em to arrive, I'll be just dreaming of having that kind of money to spare for a pc myself...
