BSOD Problems

Thread Starter
Hey all

Having a few issues with my sig rig and weren't sure where to post!
I keep getting BSODs when I'm playing FIFA 12, usually can't manage more than two games without one.
Which is weird because nothing in my rig has changed since a few months ago relentlessly playing Bulletstorm with no BSODing.

Anyone have any ideas as to where I should start testing and how?

What's the BSOD error code that you are getting? it could be a unstable overclock or something else for all that I know. First thing I would do is download the blue screen viewer - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

then at least you will know the error code and pin point the issue. thumb.gif

Where do you find the code? On the BSOD itself? I know a dialog box usually comes up on restart but because when it cuts out, it doesn't go past the screen with the Gigabyte stuff on it, so I have to restart and I think that's the reason it's not showing the dialog box..

Edit: I've set up Windows to record mini dumps and I'll try to induce another BSOD tongue.gif

Bump:

I had another issue today, basically I'd just finished playing a game and came away from my computer.
I turned around and it had gone to the gigabyte motherboard screen after restarting for no apparent reason, and got stuck at the screen..

This an issue I've never come across, wondering if anyone can offer any advice for diagnostics?

Might be a power supply issue, can you try another psu in there to see if you can replicate the problem?

You could be right, I'd be most unfortunate if it is because I had a PSU issue with my stealthxstream and OCZ replaced it with a new modxstream.

It happens really randomly, like it used to be whilst using firefox. Granted we can't assume firefox is the culprit because it was the program I used most..

Could it possibly be the motherboard?

Sorry, just to add to this.. Another weird thing happened which used to happen when I had non-genuine Windows 7, (It was genuine but OEM and new hardware installation doesn't mix).

The computer froze kind of, and when I pressed ctrl-alt-delete it just went to a screen similar to the login screen but said "Preparing security options..".

So I restarted and once again got stuck at the Gigabyte motherboard screen, restarted again and it is fine.. What the hell!
