Need to increase multiplier but cannot!! XP-M

All my sig info is correct, I've tried to raise my multiplier above 11, at 12.5 no post, at 12 no windows load, havn't tried 11.5,, I think I may have to put a wire on my msi board to enable it does anyone know of a walkthrough for this?

Generally, CPUs have locked multi's, except the 'Extreme' CPUs, like the FX series for AMD and the Extreme Editions for Intel.

Think you're out of luck on this one, unless I am wrong... not sure about those mobile chips now I think about it.

Erm, when you raise the multi are you lowering the fsb?
Increasing vcore?

You can't just randomly jump multis with the same fsb/vcore.

Try 166 fsb with your higher multi and work from there.
My old Abit was happy up to 14 multi.

Oh, and half-multis can be flaky anyway.

You tried from 2.2 to 2.5 without making adjustments elsewhere?

I've got stock cooling so I'm looking to squeeze the most out of it safely that i can until I get an aftermarket one,, I don't want to lower my FSB I've seen many others report success using 200x12 or 12.5 my current voltage is 1.60 running at 200x11,, think I'll have to crank it up?

btw XP-M's come completely unlocked and have HUGE potential

For best performance its best to go for fsb increase rather than just chucking up the multy. 200x12.5 will not perform anywhere near as well as 225x11 even tho its same mhz rating. Looks good that you have it at 2500Mhz but it just doesnt have the performance.

Yes you will need to raise the vcore to get the multy up. If your trying for 12x200 then start with 1.7v and see how it goes. If its stable see if it will go lower.

Have you tried to get the vcore lower at 200x11? Try to find the min vcore needed. It varys from chip to chip. My spare will do it at 1.525 but this one will do it at 1.5v

What msi board are you using? I used to have a delta2 but it didnt seem to like anything but a 11x multy no matter what vcore.

If i remember right the wire trick is to enable the higher multys over 14. Not what you want really. the is also the L12 wire mod which get the board to use the 200 romsip table instaed of 133 one and sometimes helps overclocking. Some modded bios have it built in as a soft mod.

edit: just read your spec. pc2700 memory will hold back your fsb ocing as you already know...time for upgrade? If you want a modded bios for the board goto www.socketaplus.com and signup and ask for one there.

As mentioned previously...your multi would be best at x11 with your fsb (depending on the RAM) set at somewhere between 200MHz and 225MHz.
As for the Vcore running it up to 1.6v won't cause you too much pain, you just need to what your load temperatures on the CPU as anything over 55 celcius is going to harm the CPU over time. My preference is to stay below 50 celcius

I found with my old XP-M 2600+ the x12 multi was not a viable option.

Remember socket A loves high fsb with tight timmings for ultimate performance.

cheers

A standard xp3200 is 1.65v at 200x11 so you will def need more than 1.6v for 200x12. Anyything up to about 1.85v on air is ok with Barton core but will depend on cooling you use. Like it has been said try to stay below 50c if possible but as long as its stable then dont get too worried.

As others have said, it's generally impossible to go from one multi to a higher one without adjusting the vcore. I'm not sure if your BIOS will allow you to adjust the vcore. If it doesn't, then you're probably stuck with your 2.2 OC, which isn't bad. What does it say on the chip about what kind of 2500+ is it? The AXMA2500 series works with the lowered 1.45 voltage but the AXMH2500 series uses the standard 1.65 voltage.
