Because most of the x58 chipset boards use the Marvell controller for SATA3 and only one PCI express lane so the most you'll get out of a SATA3 SSD is about 400gb/s.

How about the Sniper

I have the rampage formula III, and I have been so frustrated over the marvel sata3 issue!!! I run a C300 ,but have to run in sata 2. Out side of that one issue the baord is awesum many toys for an OCer . I guess I will upgrade when the new ivey bridge hits. But for now X58 boards have that one glitch with sata 3. Although there are some here that say they have gotten there marvel issues straightened out somehow. I have tryed everything and just gave up. Hope that helps. From my owning this board.

Having said that I am researching weather the latest x58 boards have been fixed with the sata issue. I cant see buying a new board just over that really

Oh, Ok. It is good to know, I would choose something new but I can't afford to get a new CPU aswell or else I would. So for now I am sticking with 1366 and so I am trying to track down the best x58 I can afford. I saw no votes on the eVGA boards, I was always under the impression they were the best at making everything.

I have been giving this some thought reading up on this board. All looks good and sata 3 appears to function on this board.

I had heard that there were a few problems with the sabertooth and that it was not very fast, am I wrong? I like the sniper and would love to get it but its way too expensive.

I ignorantly voted for the eVGA 3X SLI.

Good to know I'm not the only one in here with one. :P

I have been reading reviews for the rampage 3 formula and it seems to have the main complaints about the sata3 and customer service. customer service isnt a big issue for me, but I was hoping for the sata 3 to work as I have sata3 drives I would like to run at full speed. Is this just the sata3 not working at all or is it different for SSD's vs. HDD's ?

Never had such a hard time buying hardware before, but after reviews I am leaning toward the Asus as it seems to be good aside from the sata3 issue which all boards are reporting and I can't find any reviews on the gigabyte
post #19 of 27
the thing is, sata 2 will work pretty much fine if you had regular ol HDD, even with SDD's so thats not THAT big of an issue, its just something you should be aware of. plus, your caviar black wont even hit sata 3 speeds so you shouldnt worry bout it
