Today's Updates - January 5th

Thread Starter
Starting in about an hour, we'll begin seeing rollout of the latest platform release (and our first since before the holidays). A brief summary of the release notes can be found below:

Features and Additions:
  • Improved photo upload page
We added a selector to the photo upload page that lets you select the target album you want to upload to, or create a new album on the fly. Previously you had to click into an album and only THEN could you upload photos. It's a simple enhancement but a good one, and also paves the way for a few of the Galleries improvements that are still on the way.
  • Performance improvements
Forum list pages saw some performance work in this cycle (any page that begins with /f got faster to generate on the back end). HTTP request bundling was also optimized further.

Fixes:
  • The 'subscribed threads' page experienced some serious issues with sort order and pagination when the "only show unread items" preference was on. This has been fixed.
  • Several Javascript load order errors in IE were fixed
  • Problems with incorrect image embed URLs were corrected.
  • A small alignment issue with unread PM highlighting in the homepage module was resolved.
  • Sidebar in-page messages had problems with links not clicking, this is now fixed.
  • A few problems adding images to new products were resolved.
  • We improved the responsiveness of the search results to image additions and deletions.
  • Some users received verification emails with malformed "click here to verify" URLs. The process by which these are generated, expired, and regenerated on resend is now more robust.
  • Users attempting to use censored words in a thread title will now see the more specific error message.
  • Isolated display issues with partially expanded sig-rigs were sorted out.
  • Incorrect meta description tags on Article pages were fixed
  • Post-edit time limits no longer apply to Marketplace forums (which should clear up various image upload issues)
  • Pregenerate thumbnails for album pages so they load faster.
  • Solved some isolated problems with navigating articles by tag.
  • The "Cancel" button in the full page editor should now play nice with IE9
  • When clicking into an album, directly to the last image, the functionality to click the image and go to the next one was broken for the entire duration you browsed that album (what a mouthful). This is now fixed.

Also in the news - in the very near future, look for us to be migrating back into a full, public-facing bug tracker. You'll be able to use the bug tracker to view existing reports, validate reports as reproducible, and track progress updates as we verify issues internally and work with the developers to get them fixed. This tracker will also include an area for feature requests, which we're going to begin taking into consideration now that we're a couple of months past the launch date and things are settling in. To answer the inevitable question, yes, we'll port all existing reported bugs (through the Google Docs form) that have not been addressed into the new tracking system.

Wonderful. The new platform has been running very well for me personally for the past month. Great performance.

I was wondering why we had the outage... now I know smile.gif

Thanks for the update Chipp.

I'm having the following issue with the update. Unsure if anyone else has, other than one person mentioned "don't use the mark all read" option if you want to keep track of threads you've posted in. I've attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

On the left hand side are the threads I've posted in recently according to my profile. On the right, is the Water Cooling forum. As you can see, there is no longer a distinguished color difference between threads I've posted in and those I have not. I've highlighted the main thread in question (pretty crapilly lol) Before the update, this thread would then show white.

Very nice, thanks for the update. There are few things I love more than a changelog. thumb.gif

Am I the only one experiencing reply issues after the update. It seems that when I reply to a message in pm or thread, I have to do it 2 or 3 times before it will submit.
