Help choosing a SSD

So I'm considering getting a humble SSD, 60GB not more. What is the best for the money?
And what do you guys think of the OCZ vertex II 60GB ?
I am currently using the 60gb vertex 2 on this computer I am using.
fantastic boot, install and load speeds.
no complaints so far.

But there a few reviews out there that claim that most of those drives fail either at installation or slightly after.

What about the Corsair Nova Series 2 60 GB SATA II ? they seem to have solid reviews in comparison to the OCZ Vertex II
post #5 of 29
I would pass up the OCZ Vertex II--have heard they aren't too reliable. The Crucial M4 SSDs would have my vote, that's what I would buy if I were to buy an SSD today.

You're probably reading the vocal minority's reviews on Newegg or something. I sincerely doubt "most" of the drives fail at installation or slightly after.

How many people do you know that go on to Newegg to rave about their SSD that worked just fine, then think about how many people would complain and moan when they get something DOA.

So what is your preferred SSD ?

OCZ's SSDs have had some problems with crashes. The reliability is not their strong suit. However, I was wondering why you chose the Vertex II when the Vertex III offers faster speeds and, if you are shopping from Newegg, is only 5 dollars more.

I use a Crucial M4 SSD in my rig, which has a better reputation for reliability. Right now on Newegg the Crucial M4 64GB is the same price as the Vertex III (only 5 dollars more than the Vertex II) So I would recommend you check those out.

Why not the Intel 320 Series? They were extremely cheap these past few days, so a few of the deals might still be around.

Its faster than the Vertex 2, but around the same price, even cheaper if you're lucky. And you get Intel's famed reliability. AFAIK, they're the most reliable on the market.
