second hand DDC pump from Apple, reliable? - Page 2

If you know a pump maverick, you can find the DDC-1T pump (MCP350 type) for a good deal. Plus, the pumps are overstock "new", never used with the Laing 50,000 run hour life fully intact.

Other pumps sold on-line via ebay are used and have been involved with the Apple G5 saline pH coolant mixture that has corrosive issues when exposed to air. Therefore, avoid the DDC-1-VC pumps with the Volume Compensator. Jump over to any of the Apple forums and read the G5 leak stories due to the VC problems.

I bought 2 of these for 40 bucks and they make a weird whining noise. I haven't tried an aftermarket board yet tho. I have an XSPC dual DDC top that needs to go on as well. The only complaint I have is that they make kind of a high pitched tone, almost a throbbing. They do however move TONS of water.

Yup.. Their concept was great at first, unfortunately their so-called sealed loops started to leak. And bhoy did they cause a mess, PowerMac G5's were dropping like flies. Here's someone worklog on how they tried to fix theirs...

If you get to the bottom of that worklog to rebuild an Apple G5, you will see the link at Martin's lab for the pump replacement I offer without the VC. thumb.gif

I've been a great help over the years to the G5 people dealing with the rebuild of the LCS and the replacement coolant being the Sierra PG mixture.

They're a biatch to dismantle... Apple truly loved to annoy and prevent it's customers from making customization or tweaks to their hardware. Seriously, I don't know why they're so scared. The only thing it tells me, Apple has something to hide, often it's dogie engineering and poor assembly. rolleyes.gif
