It stands to reason that Nvidia is expecting a refresh from AMD and due to that GTX 780 is going to be substantially better than 7970 and at least 15% or so better than what's expected from 8970. I would expect GTX 780 to be in the range of 1.4 to 1.5 times performance of 7970.

i do agree the 2x scores could be a little inflated but. thats what hardware does, take leaps once a year. just in 7970's case it did more of a small hop forward in raw power. and pretty decent leap in power consumption thumb.gif

No I think the 780 will be about 25% faster then the 580, exactly what I said before. I don't know why you'd doubt this almost every GPU gen is like this including the aformentioned 6970-7970.
