Conroe 2.13 GHz

Thread Starter
Hi. My friend just bought a Conroe 2.13ghz cpu and i've been trying to help him overclock it but i'm not too familar with Conroe chips. I understand how amd chips clock but not the conroe's. This is what I THINK are the spec. Please correct me.

CPU is running at 266 FSB x 8 multi
Because it's DDR2 ram you multiply everything by 4
i.e 266 x 4 = 1064 FSB

I can lower the multiplier but not go up.

Would 500 FSB x 6 multi be o.k for overclock?
What that mean my Ram is running at 500mhz and my FSB is 500 x 4 = 2000 FSB?

Is this right? Please correct me. And how far can you bus the FSB on these cpu's? 3000, 4000 etc?

CPU is running at 266 FSB x 8 multi - Correct
Because it's DDR2 ram you multiply everything by 4 - The FSB is indeed 1066, but not because of DDR2 RAM. This has to do with the quad pumped Intel FSB.
i.e 266 x 4 = 1066 FSB - correct (rounded)

I can lower the multiplier but not go up. - Correct

Would 500 FSB x 6 multi be o.k for overclock? - if your board can do that. why not 400x8?
What that mean my Ram is running at 500mhz and my FSB is 500 x 4 = 2000 FSB? - FSB is 2000; effective RAM speed likely 500 x 2 = DDR2 1000 speed

Is this right? Please correct me. And how far can you bus the FSB on these cpu's? 3000, 4000 etc? - depends. 4.0 GHz should be possible in the best carse scenario.

Keep an eye on temps. For anything above 3.5GHz, you'd likely need watercooling
