How long do you run Prime95?

Thread Starter
I've seen a lot of posts that recommend testing for 8-12 hours on blend, and I am also currently in that group as generally I test for ~12 hours. I have also seen some that say 24 hours is best. One thing that I have noticed though is that I typically get problems after ~30 minutes for memory stability issues or around 2 hours for low voltage related issues. I've never seen a problem occur after ~2 hours.

So, my question is do people really see problems between 12 hours - 24 hours? Or is 24 hours just some number that makes people feel good? I gues the same question could be asked of 12 hours?

I'm just curious to hear how long into Prime95 testing folks experience problems.

In my experience I have seen some 101/124 BSOD's after as many as 10 hours with my current 2700k. Another good way to stress test I've found is to fold on the CPU and GPU at the same time. If it's going to crash it'll be then smile.gif My old i7-920 was 24+ hours prime stable but still needed another bump or too in voltage to be folding stable. Fold for the cause!

People are going to be mad at me for saying this but I run it for about an hour. It may not ensure perfect stability, but it ensures adequate stability. I have yet to have a BSOD after an overclock passing my 1 hour test.

I generally did it for ~2 hours

But I've found folding/mining to be better stability tests.

I have had errors at 6 - 7 hours that a bump in voltage corrected.

So I stick with the 10 hours.

But in reality its your hardware, so if you want to run 5 minutes or 5 days its completely up to you.

If you see BSOD's its unstable. Really that simple.

I've had blend worker fail after 12hr and 14hr, which a vcore bump helped pass a 20hr run.

To please the masses here 8-12 hours is exceptable. Now on that note, it really comes down to what you do mostly with your rig. If you never do anything real intensive then 2-4 hours with prime blend is a good start. If you on the other hand will be doing intensive stuff 12+ hour's is a good starting point and i would use more than one stability test.
