Is it fair to say that its probably Skyrim that's the issue???

My computer runs BF3 very well on all ultra settings... and I've had no issues playing the game for hours at a time...

I ran heavily modded Oblivion without issues, League of Legends without issues, WoW and SW:TOR without issues....

but Skyrim....

I get 60 fps all the time on very high settings BUT...

Randomly my graphics cards turn off. This happens whether I'm running them in CF or not... so even with a single card it does this.

The cards turn off (fans are loud, and they turn off when this happens) and my monitor says no input... blah blah blah...

Also is it normal for games to take up 90% or more GPU utilization (when I play BF3 or Skyrim)?

Then I have to reboot my computer....

I've played SW:TOR for like 8 hours in a stretch, BF3 for like 6 when it came out, and basically I can throw ANYTHING at my computer and it handles it quite well.

Skyrim is not that graphics intensive, at least not as much as games like BF3 or Metro 2033 (played this some time ago, my friend's copy.. I was running it with 4x AA and it looked awesome!).... and if my computer had no issues running BF3 and Metro 2033, then it has to be Skyrim being bad...

I cannot run Fallout 3 on my computer because it crashes when I start the game (starts crashing indoors) and basically I've always felt that Bethesda does a half assed job when it comes to managing performance and playability on their games. What a shame... Skyrim is freaking awesome and I'm having to resort to playing it on my iMac and macbooks :/

I got this computer so I could play games like Skyrim and now I can't...

Wait a minute, your box can run BF3 on ultra just fine????

I'm getting around 25-30fps on high settings...

Edit: Nvm... I play at 2560x1440 redface.gif

Oh and also, I was having issues with Skyrim as well with CF enabled. Get the 12.1 preview drivers from amd. They fixed my issues! thumb.gif

Well that is your problem right there, you are running it on high instead of ultra high. Try running it on ultra and see what kind of FPS you get

I was getting the same symptoms, but I'm not sure if it's exactly the same - my system would essentially reboot or freeze with the monitors turning off. Finally, I think I may have solved the problem by disabling Speedstep. For some reason, Skyrim doesn't like it on my system. I can play EVERYTHING ELSE just fine. Anyway, you can try it by disabling the following BIOS settings:

CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
C3/C6 State Support
CPU EIST Function

I documented my findings here for reference:

http://one-miguel.blogspot.com/2012/01/skyrim-troubleshooting-compilation.html

Please do let me know if it works or not...

Yeah, I've not been able to get Skyrim to run smoothly on my 6850. It'll be pushing a constant 60 FPS @ ~70% GPU load, yet it stutters, and the camera movement is jittery. I think there are some serious issues with certain setups.
