EA and Steam both have their demons, neither should have complete control over the marketplace..

You never know, if EA is serious about edging in on Steam they may have a complete client similar to Steam's in a couple years + expanding their offerings.

I can't agree with this. Steam used to be the only real contendor in such a market space and not once have they acted in unfaithful practises. They have been great to its consumer base.

Except that a ban from Valve can rob you of every game you have ever purchased from Steam.

That is complete and utter fail. Thankfully I only buy from Steam and don't cheat, but that can't be overlooked.

So you think that mis-use of their service should result in a proper extemption from their services?  If you hack, cheat, or abuse their service, you should be removed.  You are just a nusance to the rest of the community.

I agree - but two things.

1- If you hack in CS you shouldn't lose your ability to play $600 worth of single player games you've bought.
2- This has happened to two people recently who were gifted games. One accident and you could lose a LOT of games. That is stupid.

STEAM deserve the recognition. A great platform. In all honesty there is no REAL competition to STEAM, Origin is a baby..well a fertilized egg compared to STEAM.

It all boils down to trust. Valve has gained the trust of the great majority of gamers. EA has done nothing but burn down franchises and piss away trust and goodwill through their shady ways in its long, corrupt history. Only recently (past few years) has Activision and Ubisoft taken away the fail crown from EA. I would rather boycott EA games no matter how much I wanted them instead of being forced to use Origin and for me that started with BF3.

How, exactly, would one "accidentally" find themselves in said position?

For sure, there are many reasons why STEAM succeeded and will carry on to do so compared to something like Origin. EA did a great job at annoying me when they suddenly pulled BF3 from STEAM, I bet that cost them a fair few sales.
