Help with finding a new Processor

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm building a new computer and I need to find a good processor.

Paired with a Gigabyte P67-DS3-B3 Motherboard and 4gb of Crucial 1333Mhz Ram, I need a processor that is overclockable.

It doesn't have to be an Unlocked Multiplier because the only Intel cpu that has that is the i5 2500K and i7 2600K.

I do not want anything from Intel's Core i3, i5 or i7 range.

I would like suggestions of any Celeron or Pentiums that can be overclocked.

My budget is as low as possible. Maybe in the £50 - £80 range....

Thanks for your help, Alex.

No Intel model outside the "i" range on socket 1155 can be overclocked more than a few Mhz.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116405

The Pentium G860 is the fastest non "i" chip you can buy from intel on that socket.

You can either save up for a 2500k, or switch to AMD if you want to overclock.

Any reason not to go i5 i7? What are you using it for?

I would go for a 2500K, but they are over £160.... I could afford that but I know there are other processors out there that are half the price and perform similarly.

As an example, I have a Celeron E3400 on a G41 Motherboard. It uses a Locked Multiplier of 13, but the base clock is 200Mhz - This gives it 2.66Ghz.

If I ramp up the Base Clock to 300Mhz I get a Stable 3.9Ghz!!!

This is what I mean, I know there are 1155 Processors that you can overclock by increasing the base clock, but I don't know which ones...??

I was looking at the Celeron G530, it is basically a E3400 - but Socket 1155 and with double the cache.

Would this be overclockable on a P67 board??

BCLK isnt the same like it used to be, you have very little room to move BCLK on sandy bridge chips, thats why there are the unlocked multiplier ones now

From anandtech

"Unfortunately the entire Sandy Bridge Pentium lineup is clock locked. Without turbo modes there's no support for overclocking at all. While these new Pentiums would have normally been great for enthusiasts looking to overclock, Intel has ensured that anyone looking to get more performance for free at the low end will have to shop AMD. So, why can't I increase the Base Frequency from 100Mhz to 150Mhz?
