ASRock Extreme3 Gen3

Thread Starter
I bought a ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 for my first build and bought this Corsair Vengeance memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345 . I had to send back the first board because of bent pins on the CPU socket so I'm waiting for an replacement and that got me to thinking if I should be ordering different RAM.

I had originally bought the Corsair Vengeance for a different ASRock board but later decided to go with the Extreme3 Gen3.

Even though I can't seem to find it being listed as compatible with the Extreme Gen3 http://www.asrock.com/mb/memory.us.asp?Model=Z68%20Extreme3%20Gen3 is this Corsair Vengeance going to work with that board?

Welcome to the forums,

Yes i have corsair vengeance and they work just make sure you use the xmp profile and double check the specs and voltage is what the ram is suppose to be set at and you will be fine. Usually the only time you worry about qvl is when you are building a server

Thanks that's a relief!

As I said I had to return the first Extreme3 Gen3 board because of bent pins on the CPU slot so I'm hoping I didn't damage the CPU... I could never get it to Post so when removing the board and CPU I noticed the bent pins.

My nephew who's doing the build with me said he thought he noticed the pins bent before we installed the CPU but he thought that was just the way it was supposed to be.

I don't know if this is bad quality control on ASRock's part or just the luck of the draw on mine, but if I get another one that's bad I'll probably be posting back for help in choosing a different MOBO.

I'm sure it was just luck of the draw. I have seen this in other manufactures also. Hold your ground and you will no be disapointed. The rams i'm using are the Gskill sniper's and work great.

The ability to upgrade later on to Ivy Bridge and benefit from PCI-E 3.0 if you also upgrade to next gen video cards coming in '12 like the soon to be released 78xx/79xx AMDs and the upcoming Keplers.

As far as 'use' with sandy bridge, none, just the peace of mind that when you do upgrade you will just need a new cpu and video card and not also another motherboard.

on top of answering your own question, future proof for ivy bridge and next gen graphics cards as now its come to my attention that for example xfiring a couple of hd79xx cards can saturate PCIe 2.0 smile.gif

thanks guys smile.gif, so Ivy bridge will operate on socket 1155, and not 2011. I heard something about the ivy-bridge E that would be released late 2012. Is this true?

rep+ btw smile.gif
