computer not powering down after shut down

Thread Starter
I'm investigating an issue wherin my computer does not power down (not even from bios when pressing power button). I have a i7, ssd, corsair psu600w, gtx580 and a gigabyte board. Not sure if it's the board, memory or psu, i'm trying to find it out.. problems began happening around 2 weeks after i had this pc. I tried various things with memory settings in bios (didn't change anything). I removed all internal- and external hardware, no change. I'm running F7B bios version (had F6 before with same problems). Could this be an memory, psu, cpu or motherboard issue? I have no motherboard speaker to hear the bleeps.. my next steps are reinstalling windows / return this thing for RMA.

Thanks for the help in advance.

If it doesn't power down, what exactly does it do? Does windows make an attempt to shutdown? This wont shut the computer down properly but it will tell you if it's the power switch or power switch header that is at fault: hold the power button down for 3-5 seconds. This should shut the computer off completely. Let me know the outcome of this, and good luck.

computer shuts down, but then fans stay on and lights on motherboard burn (same as on boot), it does't power down, stays on.
Even if u press the power button from bios, you hear drives power down but the rest stays on. Screen goes out too. It just doesn't make that 'click' to turn it off

Did you try clearing the CMOS Battery, jumper or button on the motherboard?
Maybe it helps, although you say you flashed it already.

Else i would suggest testing with another power supply. Most times way easier then quick changing the mobo.
If the problem still persists with the other power supply, probably a faulty motherboard.

RAM is in my opinion not the problem, but hey... how often do we face Murphy `s law?
You can always try with only 1 DDR slot in use (try both of your modules ofcourse)

but yeah, weird it shows up after a few weeks....

Good luck! thumb.gif

Ya tried clearing cmos with a jumper, removed all internal and external hardware, unplugged all power plugs etc. no prevail.
also did memory position swaps and only one, nothing worked. I have found more people having the same issue. Not sure if im allowed to post to other forums, but there are quite a few and exactly the same problems. All quite new builds, something must be wrong.. (ben ook nl btw)

In that case i would RMA it..... I've seen this problem with some friends and clients quiet often.... My guess is that about 80% of the times it was a faulty power supply.... but i`m afraid your part of the other 20% broken motherboards..... Are those 'other people' having the same motherboard and problem? If so, definitely RMA it...

Good to see a fellow dutchie! biggrin.gif

I've reinstalled windows7 and then it shut off with no problem.. then i tried it this morning it didnt turn off again.. then i tried it this evening it turned off... im lost what could this be? Some times it turns off ok.. some times it don't. How is such thing possible? Does Windows store something in RAM? I use 64 bit for if that matters..
