Gaming Only OC and Stress Setup

Thread Starter
Hi all, new to i5 oc'ing and have a few questions. 1st, here is my setup right now:
4.9ghz, PLL enabled, Multi-Step Load Leveling 6 (of 10) CPU Vcore set to 1.43 (Bios reporting 1.464) QPI-VTT Auto.
At windows Idle, cpu-z is showing vcore at 1.464, temps are 28-31.
under prime95, my temps are below 70.
I would like to get up to 5 or 5.1 on this rig. I am on AZZA liquied cooling 2 120mm push pull fans on radiator. I have 1 120mm intake in from flowing over the hdds, 2 120mm sire intake fans, and 2 120mm exhaust fans on top of case. The fans are 2000 coolermasters.

Any thoughts on my current settings and or tweaks to it? is 5.0 or 5.1 even feasible?

Also I am not interested in folding, or having this rig under full load 24/7. Mainly FSX a few hours a day, the rest of the time the cpu is idel aside from web surfing and downloading. So I am wondering what stress test and duration to put this through. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

BC2 and BF3 are fairly stressful games and personally I find them stable before Prime Blend or Small FFTs. If you have no interest in those then maybe run 3DMark11 few times to see if it's stable and then just play the game. If it falls over in the game then up the volts slightly until stable...

Have a look at this thread if you have time OP, got some good info on overclocking sandy bridge chips.

5ghz is possible, but if you need 1.43v in windows your getting pretty close to the limit as far as voltage is concerned, you dont really wanna be going over 1.45v with water regardless of temps.

To test cpu, download prime95 and run a custom overnight torture test with all but 1.5gb of available ram. If it passes 12 hours your good to go, if you get a 101 blue screen of death you need mroe cpu vcore, if you get a 124 bsod code you might need more vcore or you might need to tweak other settings such as PLL voltage, memory settings etc. If you get failed worker during p95 testing, your close but need slightly more cpu vcore.
