IEATFISH Needs New Headphones

I currently own some Audio Technica A700s and Sennheiser HS55s. I really like them both but my A700s are having issues with the connector that I don't feel like fixing. I'll probably sell them cheap and upgrade to a better pair.

Anyway, I need a new pair of closed headphones. My HD55s are great for games but when I need to block out sounds around my (desk is in the living room) I need something better. Here are my requirements:

  • Closed and sound cancelling if it is worth it, as long as the new ones do as good a job at isolation as the A700s.
  • Comfortable. I know there aren't many types of headphones as nice as the A700s but comfort would be great as these may be on for hours on end.
  • Uses: Gaming (55%), Music (30%), Movies/Videos (15%)
  • Budget: $250 (unless it is worth jumping up a little bit)

I am currently using my HT | Omega Claro Halo to my Marantz SR4001 if that matters to you at all. Thanks for any suggestions!

If you like the A700s, get the A900s? Extremely good isolation. The sound stage is still good for gaming. Closed back. Super comfortable. Even offers pretty awesome bass, much better than the A700s. That's my recommendation.

From all my time lurking around the Head-Fi forums, there is a basic consensus there that that the A700 is the best of the best when it comes to gaming. My recommendation would be to either stay with the A700 or just move one tier up to the A900.
