The chart below shows Nvidia cards with various amount of shaders doing Physx for HD5870.
Based on this chart, I would suggest a GTS250 as the minimum to pair with a HD7970.
Of course, the better the Physx card is, the higher fps and benefit you will receive when playing a Physx game.
I know Galaxy has a GTX260+ which is a single slot card. But its availability is limited.
Having a wider availability is Galaxy's single slot GTX460 Razor. I still see this card being sold in my local stores. For you in the US, this might be one source:-
This is not cheap, especially for Physx purpose. But if Physx is crucial to you, then I suppose this the best single card solution.
