Isn't normal TDP around 230 to 250? They measured 305. And Furmark doesnt always throttle from what i've seen or experienced. Even on a lot of modern cards.

I'm hesitant to believe those numbers as well, but there is no throttling during the time they ran the test.

I know if I have CCC running while I have MSI Afterburner running my core clock will hop around ruining my results. I wonder if that happened.

Kind of amateur if that's the case as it's quite easy to spot... then again I've seen Guru3D run a benchmark with a frame cap still on the game as well, and claimed "Oh look, card A is just as fast as carb B." Lololol

If the stock vCore is around one volt and the overclock is at 1.30v, there's not way that with a 30% increase in voltage you would get only a 20 watt increase at the same amperage... That physically makes no sense as far as I know, since wattage is voltage multiplied by amperage.

How do we know that? Nvidia drivers throttle Furmark. Some people have just renamed the process to get around it but there's also power throttling on the card itself unless it's something like the MSI Lightning with an OCP switch which I doubt these have. Furmark is a horrible testing tool anyways as it doesn't tell us anything about performance and draws excessive amounts of power. Unigine Heaven works great for this.

Nvidia works with twice the die size and subpar vrms would require such on something like the 590 but any other card i haven't seen any throttling. Not my 470 or other nVidia cards. Either way, it's not far fetched that the 7970 at these speeds are only pulling 50-75 more watts, but it also seems unlikely(Still don't know where the 20watt figure came from).

Insulting the main developer of Afterburner and RivaTuner doesn't help.
That's why Hilbert banned you.

Yeah. Slice258, Unwinder is right. There is no software modding of memory voltages on reference cards period. They don't contain any MVDC like the MSI LIghtning does. And you trying to say he doesn't know what he's talking about couldn't be further from the truth. He is one of the few people that knows exactly what he is talking about.

All 400/500/ 5000/6000 cards have onboard OCP that will kick in if the card draws too much power in order to protect itself. You can't disable it unless you have a non-ref model like the MSI Lightning with a switch for it. Furmark will trigger this quite easily, especially when over-volting.

edit: Turns out he wasn't using Furmark for the power draw. 195W stock and 305W overclocked. Similar to [H]'s OC review.
