Need a fan controller, or some other recommendation

Thread Starter
I just received 2 scythe ultra kaze fans for my radiator. Man these guys are LOUD! Great cooling for when I need power but when the PC is sitting idle it just seems like a waste, and makes watching tv really annoying if the pc is on at all. I have 1 fan header on my mobo i can use for software control (based on loads/temps) but i need it split to the 2 fans because i want their speeds to match. So is there a fan controller out there that will control at least 2 fans but use the signal from mb header? or some other way to get these beasts under control?

Get a Sunbeam rheosmart 3 or 6. Can control fans from teh header. has 30W per channel so can control a lot of fans of one chanel if needed.

You could use and just us a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter from a fan controller although I think the Lamptrons support it natively and the connector it uses is called a 3 pin fan header.

Make sure the fan header on your MB can provide enough power before plugging these fans in. If your MB fan header can run these paired, just get a 3-pin splitter (you'll need to trim off one of the yellow wires or get one with single RPM wire).

The 3 knob would be perfect, but my case only has 5.25 bays. maybe i'll just pop for 6 knob but i'll have 2 or 3 unused knobs. Thanks for the help.

You can also use a 3.5 inch bay adapter on 5.25 bays.

Another +1, got the 6 knob and running a UK 3k and an AP-31 plus a few xigmatek fans and it handles them beautifully. Great controller. Also swapped out the LEDs for red ones which was super easy.

just got mine recently. works well, tho the rpm range isn't quite what i was expecting with the PWM header. for some reason (while using the smart fan control feature) my fans wont spin down to 0 RPM when idle and wont spin up to max rpm when running prime95. maybe it's a bios issue and not the controller? so cant really fault the controller for it? but I'm quite satisfied with its overall performance. I'm able to tweak the fans to spin at 500-600rpm during idle and almost 800rpm running max (which is about 10% down from the max rpm of the fan) with manual control, I can have full command of the RPM range, however the reason i bought the controller is for its smart fan control feature.
