Hello, Im just wondering if this board is compatible with Ivy Bridge. It doesn't say in the specs. But aren't all Gen3 mobos compatible?

Yes all of ASUS' Gen 3 boards are supposed to be IB compatable. Though if your thinking of going IB. WAIT and get a H/Z77 chip set board when they come out.

If it's a Gen3, it's Ivy compatable. Ivy Bridge is needed to use PCIE 3.0.

Yep, you could use 2 of them if you wanted.

If you have an IB cpu those slots are going to run at 3.0 x16 for 1 card, 3.0 x8/x8 for 2 cards.
If you use a SB cpu, the slots will run 2.0 x16 for 1 card and 2.0 x8/x8 for 2 cards.

There isn't any benchmarks that I have seen pitting the 7970 on PCIE 3.0 x8 vs 2.0 x8, so I'm not sure if 2.0 @ x8 would become saturated with that beast, but your looking at an IB cpu and one card so discard that, lol.

Yes exactly what I wanted to know. I already have a 2500k also...but want Ivy in the future. Can afford 1 7970 now, and another later. I think all angles have been covered. Thanks for the help, love this forum. biggrin.gif
