FX 4100 overclocking troubles. help please? - Page 2

Cool'n'Quiet is not the problem (and should not usually be a problem, and should be strictly kept on for the benefits unless there is a problem as it has little-no effect on end performance), the likelihood is that it is the total lack of VRM cooling (heatsinks or airflow).  This board is actually known to shut down if the VRMs overhead during load but I wouldn't put throttling out of the question.  Address the lack of VRM cooling first and then see what happens.  You should be ensuring cooling to the VRMs when doing overclocking of any sort.

the VRM's run cool, at least from what i see in HWmonitor. this is at stock.

You use they run cool? Stick your finger in it, while running cinebench.

VRMs dont have thermal sensor.

i cant really open my case and run cinebench at the same time. my radiator and fan are mounted to the side panel. and heres another screenshot of cinebench runing at 4.2ghz, stock voltage and a lot of v droop. 339
it also underclocks itself while running cinebench, then it clocks up again, then down again. its very frequent. and the thing is, it throttles down even running at 100% stock. with no overclock what-so-ever
id be better off with a better motherboard anyway. if it throttles at stock, thats just plain unreliable. only thing i can try is ghetto mounting an 80mm fan to my case pointed at the VRM's.

BUMP

does anyone know if this mobo has LLC option in the bios? this would be what im gonna go for if it does, and if overclocks are stable on it. cant really find any info on the board tho.

Stop the guessing. There is only one clear choice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131736

More than you want to spend but can you really put a price on peace of mind. I OC'd my 4100 effortless stable at 4.7ghz. thumb.gif

theres no way i can afford that right now. the UD3 i posted looks to be a decent overclocker. as long as it has LLC settings in the bios. my gf is getting me a board of my choice for a late christmas gift. only catch is that it cant be more then $130 lol.

I've got the FX 4100 paired with the 990FXE board and been trying to figure out a way to push this to at least 4.2GHz. I cant seem to find a way to set the voltages to auto, and also cannot find a cool'n'quiet feature on this board (not sure if thats Intel only or not). I do see an option to enable or disable Core C6 State though, not sure if that does the same thing or not. Any help on setting up the OC on a 990FXE would be great!
