Q6600 Won't even overclock to 3GHz What the Hell? - Page 2

Turn down your VTT voltage(Fsb Termination), its too high. Start out at lowest and work your way up.

Ok, I passed 10 runs of intel burn test

using 1.4V cpu voltage
and 1.4V cpu termination

I passed at 1.39V with ram a 1066mhz but when I changed it to 1333mhz ITB failed so I upped the Vcore to 1.4V and it passed.

Now should I reduce cpu termination.

Yea, your VTT is too high for your clock, you shouldnt need much more than stock voltage, I would say 1.3v ish. Your going to have to play around with it. If you can start out at 1.2v, start there.

have you touch the NB voltage at all?

Is your ram performance any better than it was with the ddr2?

Not sure to be honest, It is faster since I now have 8GB rather than 2GB. The speed is shown on benchmarks but real life it is too early to say.

hmmm, well I would say do what Mattb2e said to do and if that dont work then you know you will have to drop the FSB. But it also could be you just need to dump more vcore in it, have you tried 1.45v yet? But only if your cooler can handle it as with the high vid I think you have to dump more vcore in it to get up there. Oh and is it a B0 or G0 stepping as that will definitely make a big difference too.

Yh I dropped the CPU termination voltage back to normal 1.2V and it ran 10 instances of IBT so thats a good sign, I am currently running another 10 instances just to be sure.

I guess the VTT voltage didn't have big effect maybe if I increase it to 1.5V I can reduce Vcore down from 1.4V but why bother. I read VTT can do some real damage if set high, so better safe than sorry.

Still I think 1.4V just for a 3GHZ overclock is insanely high luckily my temperatures are not too bad, I get max 60'C. Just played Crysis 2 for a good hour or two with no issues so hopefully the overclock will be stable even with 1.2V VTT.

I think maybe I can squeeze 3.2GHz out of it.

second run of IBT just passed, seems like the drop in VTT had no effect on the overclock and the 1.4V vcore was the main contributor. thumb.gif

BTW Why is my idle voltage lower than load, that does not make any sense

EDIT BIG FAIL I MEAN IDLE VOLTAGE AND LOAD VOLTAGE, AM SLEEPY rolleyes.gif

I overclocked my q6600 with ddr3 1066 without touching any voltages. All I had to do was bump the ddr3 1333 down to 1066 and its stable at 3.0 ghz. If you havent figured it out yet I can post all my bios settings....I have a Gigabyte p45t-es3g which should have similar bios. Let me know if you want me to post them.

I doubt my chip can do 3GHz on stock and why run at 1066 when you can run at 1333mhz,

1333mhz FSB and 1333mhz ram gives one to one ratio. Isn't that better than 1066mhz
