It really is a bad chip that did not live up to expectations. The Phenom II X6 chips were much better CPU's. AMD made a very stupid decision taking them out of production so soon.

Read what you wrote. No one is saying FX competes with Intel. I called you out for saying Thuban was better... Come on, dont tell me you cant remember that...

The only way that FX series outperforms the Thuban processors is in advanced multithreading. If the application can not make use of Bulldozer's high multithreading performance then it will do not better than a 1100T.

Bulldozer does exactly what it's named after. It goes slow. But can do a lot at once...slowly... wink.gif

So if the FX gets to 4.6 (and its common you can even go higher) then it will have a 400mhz advantage, and still be better.... in fact, it will be 100mhz better than at the stock test settings. So overall, I still dont see an OC thuban being the better choice...

You don't seem to understand the problem.

Just because it can clock to higher speeds, doesn't make it faster.

Intel's Core i5 2500K delivers nearly 50% better single threaded performance here than the FX-8150.

And that's with the bulldozer clocked at 3.6 GHz, while the Phenom is clocked at 3.3 GHz. You might have to clock the bulldozer up to 4GHz just to match the single core performance of the Thuban.

the am3 phenoms are done and the bulldozer chips are actually slower in most applications. so yeah.....way to go AMD.
AMD seems to have forced people now to buying their new range of CPUs. The 1090T was basically the same performance as their new bulldozer chips and if you AMD fanboys can't buy 1090T then I guess I know what you'll have to buy now. rolleyes.gif

I believe mikezachlowe scored 1.29 on Cinebench single threaded test @ 5.1ghz, while Thuban scores that @ 4.25ghz. Using the same instructions, same benchmark, Bulldozer needs almost a full Ghz clock advantage to keep up core for core.

Tisk tisk AMD.

I can't help but notice that all of you that are bad mouthing the FX CPUs don't even own one.

Untill you own one, (or two) as I do, you have no bases to even form an intelligent opinion, much less shooting your mouth off about how bad they are.

Buy one, and put it on a worthy mobo, then and only then can you drain your pie hole.

UMADBRO?

I hate to say it, but benchmarks don't lie. If it doesn't perform, it doesn't perform. Doesn't matter who's rig it's in.
