Single card upgrade from GTX 460's SLI - Page 4

Yep, $550 it is for the 7970's. Man that's high, I wonder if such a price gap will give Nvidia any a reason to drop 580 prices. Isn't the 7970 supposed to perform about the same as a 580?

Apparently I'm not the only one looking for an upgrade, I checked newegg at 12:30 AM and every 7970 was already sold out.

I saw a HUGE performance increase when going from my unlocked 6950 to a GTX 580. i used to get 28 - 50fps on bf3 with some options off, now everything enabled and 4x AA i get 58 - 80fps, f1 2011 used to get 40 - 60 fps now get 80 - 190fps, just to name a few.

that's simply wrong. There's no way a 580 is more than 50% faster than a 6950.

OP: a single 6950 gives smoother framerate than 460 SLI.

That would be nice smile.gif. I love the twin frozr cooler on my 460's, they stay nice and cool.

But lower right?

Another question. How much difference does the memory bus width make? i.e. 256bit vs 384bit

unless those games favor nvidia? I have seen some games love one brand over the other. Like in some 7970 benchmarks it got beat by the 580, but in most it really pulled way ahead of the 580. I was just shocked that a single 7970 almost matched a 580sli setup in bf3. I forgot the review, might have been overclockers.com or hardocp
