Looking for a portable chassis

Thread Starter
Hey, smile.gif so I was taking my time and preparing for a remake of my sig rig into a new chassis, fully sleeved psu and maybe even a custom water loop! Now the only problem I ran into was a good light weight chassis preferably with a handle bar and a side window! CM Storm Scout fit every requirement, but the length of it did not, sadly :'( ... ( what a shame such a good case! )

I am planning to finish the build by around august/july ? Basically when the prices for 6970/6990 will be much lower due to release of 7k series wink.gif So I can crossfire mine smile.gif
Another reason I needed a lightweight/handle bar case is because I will be moving out of country in like 2 years and carrying it with me will be much easier, (shipping it is not an option will have to take it to the cabin)
Does anyone know anything like Storm Scout or maybe a good way to modify it without butchering it?
*EDIT* Sapphire 6970 is 10.75" long

I suggest you to drop the requirement of a handle. There are not many cases with a handle and for those that has a handle, they are all so ugly that I could not bring them up to you. Instead, if the handle is just for a transit purpose, I suggest using a harness system by GearGrip. Once you have arrived at the destination, remove the harness.

Another consideration is the H70 in your sig rig. It contains liquid and it is most certainly that Pudong Airport security will not let you through.

Regarding the size:- Your sig rig contains GIgabyte GA-P67A-UD5-B3 which is an ATX-size motherboard and so the case must accommodate that.  Using the dimensions of the Storm Scout as the starting point (489D x 219W X 495.5H mm), what is your max size?

How about Lian Li PC-8NW with (W) 210mm x (H) 450mm x (D) 490mm ? It is aluminium at 4.6kg and can take in 11.4'' long graphics card.

I am looking at the sizes of
(W)~220
(H)480- 520
(D) ~500
I guess I will have to ditch the idea of a handle bar then T_T ( a little bit of me just died inside) , How about CM Storm Enforcer? It has better cable management, and easily removable hdd bay smile.gif
Also I am not a fan of Lian Li cases I personally think they are too boxxy there fore quite ugly looking , but thats just me.

A Lanboy air would be great, if it did not not 270+ usd in China smile.gif I can buy Corsair 800D for 300 usd here ; Enforcer and Scout both cost ~100 USD , I dont mind spending some money on a chassis but almost 300 usd for Lanboy is just insane.

@ThyrtySixNights
If they made a bigger Vulcan i would so get it frown.gif

Bitfenix survivor might fit the bill.
No side window, but handlebar certainly, and it does look rather nice. Should be big enough for the 6970 as well, i think.

Well Ive been looking through dozens of reviews on youtube and other sites and well I came down to CM Storm Enforcer smile.gif
271
It is the same size as Storm Scout just more spacey on the inside, had to ditch the handle bar though frown.gif Though if I go back to Russia this summer i will try to make a custom one that will fit on the top of the case smile.gif

your biggest problem for transport is CPU heatsink stability during transport. you may have to remove the cpu heatsink and maybe gpu as well and transport those in separate boxes to ensure survivability during transport. mechanical HDD may also present a problem depending on how rough the flight is.

a handle on the box is not your major concern

if you intend to build a box for transport, i'd suggest you look seriously into a mATX or maybe even an ITX form factor. less mass = easier to transport and still offer enough power for gaming.

I suggest you google SG07 or TJ08

if a small mobo is not an option, then arc midi MAY be strong enough. but cant really vouch for it since i've never handled one personally and wouldn't be able to tell if the steel is strong enough for transport..

Well I guess for the sake of the safety I will take out the hard drives, gpu and cooler when I will take a flight.
I would mind going mATX if i had the money to buy a new motherboard ^_^
Thanks for suggestions though smile.gif
Man this whole thing on small form factors is so interesting smile.gif I just want to go nuts and build a new small form factor rig , just because!
