Radeon 7970 Advice?

So I'm definitely getting a 7970, but I'm not sure if I should snag one right on release date, or wait until the non-reference cards come out? I'm not too sure what the difference between reference and non-reference is. From this, the Atomic RX looks pretty nice..

700

Might be sort of a weird question, but I don't want to be regretting getting the first model that comes out.

It's too soon to say really.I would wait for the non-reference designs from MSI and Asus to release. Then I'd make my decision.

Reference all the way. If you can, buy it ASAP.

That's true, I'm curious to see what kind of an insane 3 slot cooler Asus can come up with tongue.gif This XFX also has me thinking.. http://www.overclock.net/t/1194445/xfx-7970-double-d-black-edition

I'm in no rush anyway as I could be waiting another couple weeks for my back ordered NZXT Phantom doh.gif

Really? What makes you say that?

I think the main reason to go with the reference design is to put a water block on it.So if you want to put yours on water that's the preferred card generally.Although no doubt we will see some custom PCB factory water blocks sometime down the road.

The original reference cards are usually the best quality. A few custom boards that come out later are made really well too but most of them are actually just excuses to make the boards cheaper.

If it was me I wouldn't hesitate to buy reference in fact my 6950 is reference, it unlocked and has been very stable.

That Atomic RX looks awesome but I am sure they are going to charge an extra $100+ for it.

That's another thing is the prices of the non-reference cards. A lot of cards on that sheet look sweet but they'll probably be too much. I think I'll wait and see what the non-reference cards have to offer before making my decision.

Apparently, that card is supposed to be released at the same time (or within a week) of the reference cards according to a lot of people on here. I don't know if it's true but if so it should make your choice so much easier.

On a related note whoever started that thread with the 7970 double D edition must have been a sexy beast wink.gif

That's good to hear. XFX is definitely one of my preferred brands alongside Sapphire and Asus. The DD black edition also looks nicer than the Sapphire reference design, IMO. The black and silver would look much nicer than the black and red in my rig which is all black and blue tongue.gif 2 fans is also nicer than 1, I never quite understood how that one tiny fan can keep the card cool on those Sapphire cards thinking.gif
