I NEED help for Lighting with my case! - Page 2

Sloppy, I don't know why I didn't answer your question haha, so here goes.

You spent all that time getting your color theme right for your case so I would not use any colored lighting, I would use white clean light and show off how nice you did color matching.

The best way to light up a case from what I have seen is to put the lights on the back of the windowed panel, this way it directly lights up everything in the case with a good shot of light, now which way you choose to do so is up to you. I have seen good results from ccflc cold cathods, however they are huge and cumbersome, but I at least wanted to mention them as a cheap alternative, now here comes the easy and clean was of doing it.

Here is two links:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-pcs-SMD-SMT-white-LED-light-strip-bar-5050-adhesive-tape-/350520897938?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519cac7192#ht_3700wt_1163

http://www.ebay.com/itm/11-8-Adhesive-White-15-SMD-Flexible-LED-Strip-Light-Lamp-Car-/260917472053?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3cbfe4ab35#ht_1616wt_1396

Those are adhesive led or smd strips, you just stick them to the back of the window and they will work perfectly, you will need to figure out which size you need, but you need to make sure they are 12v strips so you can wire them to a psu, as we have done buisness in the past if you wanted me to help you through this just let me know in a pm buddy.

But this is what I plan to do for my Aspros mod as it will give me the best lighting out there right now.

I dont really have access to NZXT LED strips very easily, so will these do btw?

Is Lamptron a good brand? Tbh, I have no experience with their products at all. And they seem to be less brighter than the NZXT strips.
Was thinking of getting em CCFLs, but I have no idea how bright are they, cos I have the case right next to my face and I dont want the light to be too glaring.
I want more of a ambient lighting effect :/

Yeah, those lamptron strips are good. These are a different led than the NZXT setup - flat vs. round (directional). The lamptron will be more of a flood of light while the NZXT will have a more spot effect.
It's so little!

I can totally confirm this--the NZXT have one bright LED every 10 or so cm so they are pretty spotty. They are good for general illumination; say, along the very extremities of the case. It will make the whole case a nice, solid color that way. If you put one under the motherboard (as I tried), it will be a spotlight effect rather than a soft glow. You could probably get a softer glow with some cloudy acrylic or something, but that would be a lot of hassle.

Thanks guys, respective reps are given! biggrin.gif

I think I might go with the Lamptron LED strip as it seems to provide a more flood-light effect, which I prefer and white as well ( Like Lutro0 mentioned) and paste them on the back of my windowed panel.
I will probably post a pic of my new lit-up rig on Lutro0's thread in a few days biggrin.gif.

This thread of mine should help you out with lighting decisions if you wanna play around with LED's and Acrylic. In the process of updating it with part II, so you'll see the full sized sheet tests soon.

WOW! You should really sig that Lighting thread, it will really help alotta people out.

I really like that acryllic glow effect.

So how do you do it? Get a Bitfenix LED kit, some transclucent white acryllic and turn it on? Will something like the NZXT kit do the job?

Cos now I am thinking of creating something like a hanging glowing white cube in my case, which is clearly inspired by your testing tongue.gif

Haha thanks. I'll be finishing it up today so it'll definitely be added to my sig once that's done biggrin.gif

I'll post a step by step guide to creating all my lighting effects once the mod is completed. As for the NZXT kit, if you mean duplicating the 5.25" bay effect then the answer would be depends.

One of the reason's some mods look so much brighter than others is actually purely due to photography. Murdermod and others use very high ISO levels when they take their photos so it looks a bit better than reality. Here's a quick example.

Here are two pics of the exact same image. In reality, identical with no changes between the two shots. However, you can see a considerable difference. Left is at 80 ISO or the default for my camera. Right is 400 ISO. For photography people will sometimes use even higher ISO, 800 or more.
223

Now, the reality is actually closer to the left pic than the right one, though a little brighter. This doesn't mean that what Murdermod and others do is wrong or deceptive, it's just the way photography works.

So with that out of the way, if you want you PC to look great in the dark for photography, yea, the NZXT kit will do fine. To duplicate my results though, would require a bit more.
480

To get that beautiful white glow even under studio lighting (all WIP photos of my mod were all taken at 80 ISO under studio lights. I'll use high iso for the final pics), then you'll need the Bitfenix kits. The Acrylic I used is actually 1/8" frosted white acrylic for the front panel part and 1/8" white TruLED acrylite for the inside the case part.
