After stewing about this for a few days and a ton of research over at geekhack, I decided to take the plunge on a Rosewill RK-9000RE Cherry MX Red for $99.99. Has a promo for a free $20 gift card through the 22nd, so the price was right. I've never actually used a mech (to my knowledge), so I'm flying a bit blind here - let's just hope the red switches work out for me!
