Need a Motherboard for Intel Core i5-2500K CPU

Thread Starter
I am building my first computer and need assistance choosing an intel motherboard. What in particular should I be on the lookout for during my selection process? I have already chosen an Intel Core i5-2500K CPU but I need a motherboard to go with it. I am trying to build a computer that will play the latest games without a problem. If you could recommend a good graphics card to go with it I'd appreciate it as well.

The case I am using is an NZXT Phantom.

Thanks for the help!

A z68 mobo will off the most features (none of which I needed, so I got a P67) and it makes the most sense to get a pci-e 3.0 capable one to (Gen 3 as Asrock and others call it).
I would hold off buying a new gpu for a few weeks if possible. AMD just released its new 7970 and it is amazing. I assume its 7950's and down will be very impressive too. Their release should also cause a price drop in the 6000 series cards.

I've been reading newegg reviews about asrock motherboard and they tend to be plagued with reliability issues whereas the 1 stars of other boards tend to be DOAs. Personally I would rather have a DOA board than a partially working boards. What would be the biggest issues in Asrock boards? Also would anyone recommend getting the fatal1ty boards over Asus or Gigabyte?

Thanks

Newegg reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. The company, ASRock is an investiture of ASUS that they spun-off in to their own little company awhile back. Their quality has not decreased any as many tech reviews have given them high marks. Every manufacturer has failure rates. The ones who complain the loudest are those with whatever issue occurs, most people who are satisfied don't post reviews. As with anything you purchase, YMMV.

Is there a reason you would want a Fatal1ty board? Aside from it being a certain color scheme?

You can generally get quality boards from many manufacturers; ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, Biostar and even some mini boards from Zotac and Foxconn.

OP, what is your budget for case and card? What games are you wanting to play? The latest and greatest don't all have similar neeeds, you may want to play SC2 or you may want to play Skyrim or BF, MW3 and more. SC is not nearly as GPU intensive as other titles.

Doesn't look like OP is coming back lol.
Anyway your explanation makes much sense. The reason I want the z68 faftal1ty board is because they seem to be of a higher quality than other Asrock boards. The only reason I'm considering Asrock right now is because gigabyte doesn't have actual Gen3 support according to msi and the mid ranged Asus boards lack a PS/2 port which I want to use my filco majestouch with (the n-key rollover functionality).
