Bulldozer is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be... - Page 2

I don't think anyone said it's a bad chip really, I mean it works, it's just not up to par with what is out there right now. Everyone really got excited about the "True 8 Core" processor and expected it to do 2x better than the 4 core. It was all a hype thing, but I don't see a lot of people wanting to go bulldozer waiting for it to be optimized, mostly because a figure was never given for how much it would be optimized by, 5%? 25%? Who knows? Not a lot of people are going to want to wait that long for their processor to be fully optimized when they can get a "fully" optimized 2500k or 2600k (In quotes because they may be able to optimize it even more also).

But I just wanted to point out that BD is not as bad as many people make it out to be.

I think it depends on what you consider a failure. I think that a lot of people believed that it was going to come out and beat everything that was out on the market and it did not. It has been hyped up for so long people believed that the end result was going to be a new standard of power and it would beat Sandy Bridge. Since it did not some people do consider it to be a failure and in that sense it actually is a failure. Regardless it is still a solid processor with a lot of room to grow into something that may eventually be much more powerful. The arrangement of the cores and architecture is something new that may eventually be better optimized into something very powerful but right now it has not reached that level. The flagship of the Bulldozer line is the FX-8150 and is a bit more expensive then the 2500K. After looking at some benchmarks the 2500K and the FX-8150 perform quite similar with the 2500K beating the FX-8150 in the majority of the contests. Even on the times that the FX-8150 did beat the 2500K the difference is too small too small for it to justify the higher price tag. Once again because of the hype that the new architecture and Bulldozer in general has received many do consider it to be a disappointment when it is still a quality chip. So in conclusion it did not live up to the hype that it was given (regardless of if that hype was fair or not) by getting beat by the 2500K in the majority of contests (synthetic, gaming, and programs) and being priced higher then the 2500K making it failure.

I just don't believe anything is bad, just subpar. Like Windows ME was extremely subpar.

So BD was just subpar to SB

I would not consider BD to be bad either. When you consider a success/failure you have to have some sort of credentials to consider it a success. Most people believed that it was going to beat Sandy Bridge and when it did not it did not meet their requirements therefore making it a "failure"

It may not be "bad", yet it performs worse than a 4 core cpu........so imo the people who buy amd are just fanboys. I don't know why anyone would want to sink money into it, it makes zero sense. You are getting last year's or two year's ago performance from a cpu that was released only a few months ago.

Definitely wait for the bulldozer refresh if you are set on AMD.

I buy products based on how they perform, not by who makes them. And right now and least for the foreseeable future that is going to be Intel.

I buy AMD because there prices are reasonable, AMD's most expensive processer is about the same as Intels quad cores, that is just sad. I have to agree though BD price is IMO to much for its performance. Many people like me will just stick with the Phenoms and call it a day tell BD is improved upon or Piledriver comes out.
