You are getting last year's or two year's ago performance from a cpu that was released only a few months ago.
I buy products based on how they perform, not by who makes them. And right now and least for the foreseeable future that is going to be Intel.

This is why people think they are so much worse than they are.

Yes, it is.

BD isn't so bad for server and workstation like workload. With apps that can use 8 cores, it stacks up very well to LGA 1366 CPUs and SB quad cores with hyperthreading, as it should.

But what makes it so bad is the fact that AMD is pitching FX as a gaming processor. Games are know to be very lightly threaded, often maxing 1 or 2 threads at most due to the coding of the game itself. This goes against every advantage BD has over SB. BD isn't bad because its completley slower than SB. It's bad because it's significantly slower in the one area AMD is advertising and pushing it for: gaming.

This. Setting expectations is critical for any new product introduction and AMD did a poor job of this. I won't blame this totally on marketing, though, as JF-AMD seemed as surprised as everyone else that Bulldozer's IPC was less than Phenom II's when he'd been told to his face by engineering it would be higher. Methinks someone in engineering was holding back the bad news as it's impossible they wouldn't have known this well before launch.

Bulldozer gets a lot of hate cause of the hype it got, its a new architecture give them some time. There should of been more planning between AMD and Microsoft, Gaming companies. How is it going to beat something if barely anything supports its new form of SMT? Also Hyper Threading isn't even that great.

Throw the hype out the window, and once the price comes down on BD(and it will happen) its not a bad cpu at all.
I sold my QX6700 to get my FX-6100 and it beats the QX at every thing I do. not a single bench or game did the QX do better in.
I managed to get my FX-6100 for $99 on black friday. at that price point I dont have any thing to complain about. I'm very happy with my decision and there is no way I could have gone current intel simply by selling my old set up.

Agreeded, my new fx-4100 runs wonders around my lightly clocked e4400 dual core, and even ran side by real world tests against a PHENOM X6 1100t and i have to say..... theirs absolutely no real world difference, and if you want benchmark bragging rights, intel's gonna dominate for now. If you want a good price/Performance then AMD is the way to go imo. Stop hating on the BD, it needs to mature and become better worked into OS then IMO, we'll truely see it's raw performance!

I 100% agree with you. There is no real world difference, people like to live in the benchmark world instead of actually testing it themselves. Not that living in the benchmark world is bad, its just at some points you have to have your own view of it instead of looking at a benchmark and swearing by that.

I agree as well. I have a 8120 at home and I have a 2500K at work. I use both of them mostly for 3D Design and AutoCAD and I cant tell the difference between the two. I did notice that with the 2500K that it starts to bog down little when running dozens of applications at once where the 8120 doesn't. Other than that I can tell no difference. I do a little gaming with the 8120 and it works just fine for me.

In BF3 I am running 5760x1080p resolution with my two 6790's and I get easily 60fps on my eyefintiy setup. On MW3 I get over 90fps. The 8120 does everything I need it to do. I am not disappointed with the BD at all. For what I use my systems for I can tell no real difference between BD and SB.
