I am fully aware that there is 8 cores on the chip, but it's supposed to be basically the opposite of hyperthreading. Instead of 1 core acting as 2, you have 2 cores acting as 1, which is why they're grouped as modules.
AMDs marketing team is just retarded. In selling this chip as an 8 core, they gave it load of uneccessary hype, and people expected more out of it than what it is. You see a chip that supposedly has 8 cores, and your naturally going to think 'hm. this should smoke the x6', but in reality, it should only be compared to a quad core.

Intel didnt sell the 970 as a dodecacore
Why amd sold the 8150 as an octocore is beyond me

This is exactly how I see it as well... But the masses will see '8-core' and buy it based on that... So the marketing did good for uninformed people, but pissed off the people who knew anything about it

Exactly biggrin.gif

also on the note of people saying that it should be faster than the old generation
look at the 980x or 990x vs the 2600k

No no lets not try to start anything... I am just hoping AMD makes the most of this new architecture!

Coding in multi-thread is much harder than you think; that is why the movement is slow. Single and dual core CPU will still be with us for a long time. We are not going to move into 4 threads in a single year.

I still laugh at all these people who claim that the FX CPU was expected to beat every Intel CPU. The conversations before launch on this website was that everyone expected it to not catch up with the i5 2500k. I remember quite well. Instead, it almost did and with Windows optimizations it will. No CPU will win in every single benchmark, it's not really possible unless you buy a $1000 CPU. Then it should.

BD is far from a failure. Who, in their PC educated mind, will buy a 8 core CPU just to play games? A quad is all you need for that with the latest games. Eventually games will utilize 8 cores and beyond, but not now. People buy 8 core CPUs for rendering and encoding performance, of which, BD performs exceedingly well.

It does not matter what AMD marketed the CPU as. Marketing is full of lies all across the world. It's up to you to be an informed consumer and decide for yourself. You buy it and are not satisfied, maybe you should have done some research first. It's your fault, not the company's marketing. It's not like they just invented Google yesterday. I never saw AMD say that the FX 8150 will beat a i5 2500k in all games on the market. Neither did any of you. Claiming to beat the competition is not specific. 'The competition' could mean anything.

You guys can disagree all you want, im just saying, its not a failure.
SB is optiimized and BD isn't. You guys are acting like I said that BD is better than SB. I didn't say that and it isn't.
