Questions about the HD7970

Thread Starter
Hello guys I am thinking about getting the HD7970 on release and my questions are:

1. Will it outperform my HD5970CF with HD5870?. (Performance wise/heat/power)

2. Will it outperform my HD5970 alone?.

3. Would HD6970CF be a better option?.

4. What are the price difference between the HD7970 and the HD7950?. (Price isn't really a big deal)

Thx for your help guys : )

1. Yes. It has much better scaling than the old 5000 cards. It can also be overclocked pretty high. There is a Sapphire 6GB version coming out as well as another sapphire card that will run at 1335MHz core clock. It will definitely outperform your setup power consumption wise as well. The new 28nm chips use much less power than the previous 40nm chips. And as result of that, they also run much cooler.

2. Yes. See above.

3. No. When overclocked, a single 7970 can easily outperform a 6970 crossfire and it also outperforms a single 6990.

4. 7970 = $550-$600; 7950 = $450-$500

Final verdict: Get the 7970. thumb.gif

Try looking for benchmarks with it overclocked to 1.4 or more.
