AMD X2 3800+ Finally Overclocked..Results:

Thread Starter
Heyya guys, I finally overclocked my CPU.. didn't use any special
cooling though, the stock works ok.
My CPU is AMD Athlon X2 AM2 3800+ @2000MHz default.
After locking everything else in BIOS, I started upping the FSB..
with default voltage 1,275V it went up to 224MHz (Final @2240 MHz)
and after raising it to 1,350V it went up to 244MHz (Final @2441 MHz).
(It wouldn't get any further, the system crashed at 246.. it even crashed
when I was in BIOS so I had to change it fast to 244.. whateva!)
Firstly i locked the ram from DDR533 to DDR400 just to make sure it can
take it and when i got to 244 stable i turned that to DDR533 and it was
stable too!
Finally my results are:
At 3D-Mark 2006 CPU Score 1510 to 1826 marks!!
And at 3D-Mark 2005 CPU Score was up to 5320.. don't remember exactly
where it was before. Also the final score at 3DMark2005 got from 7373,
to 7600 and at 3DMark2006 From 3373 to 3470!
As for games I only checked Colin McRae 2005 and the frame rate was
really smoother with everything full!
(1280x1024,16x Anisotrophic,6x Antialising,draw distance 10 etc)
Before overclock i had to put that to AA2x to get a nice frame rate and anisotrophic to 12x)
I think it's a nice job with no cooling system change...
What do you think of that? Did i do anything wrong?
Do you think I can get it higher/n how?

Good OC with a stoch heat sink. Keep i below 50c under full load, perhaps you can squeek up the vcore a little more and get a bit more out of the OC.

Thats a good overclock for a stock cooler, get a good cooler then you should beable to hit 2.7ghz to 2.8ghz with little effort.

With the low voltage core like you have you can get it up to 1.4 volts with now issues I bet, temperatures considered of course. Try to keep them below 50*c or 55*c, throw a divider back in and see if you can get that processor higher. Look at getting an Artic Freezer 64, they are really decent and you can not beat the price.

That is a real good overclock for stock cooling. I couldn't get mine over 2200 without my temps going too high. Good job.

I finally disabled all the Spread spectrums (i had only disabled one when i got at 2441), set voltage at 1.400v and pushed the fsb higher and higher until i reached 2557MHz i entered windows and it froze after opening some heavy applications. So I put that back at 2500MHz to get some benchmarks completed. Here are some my test results (including old ones)

I got the following results:

at 3D-Mark 2005:

with 2010MHz catalyst 6.7 i got 4213 cpu score
with 2441MHz catalyst 6.8 i got 5510 cpu score
with 2500MHz catalyst 6.12 i got 6224 cpu score

at 3D-Mark 2006:

with 2010MHz catalyst 6.8 i got 1511 cpu score
with 2441MHz catalyst 6.8 i got 1838 cpu score
with 2500MHz catalyst 6.12 i got 1885 cpu score
with 2510MHz catalyst 6.11 i got 1893 cpu score

That's nice, although i'm still on stock cooling (does the job well), i now have the fsb all time set at 2300MHz and it's preety stable. I've seen a nice increase in games, especially in racing games and i only raise it when i want to try something really heavy. Also I'm a bit afraid of raising the voltage more.. don't know.. just a bad feeling.lol

Anyway, thanks to the whole forum for your support!
Have a nice overclocking!
