Looking for a laptop for design + programming/coding and possibly gaming

What is your maximum budget?
1200$ taxes in

What country are you in?
Canada

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Design in Photoshop/Flash, coding/programming/word processing, the regular web browsing without it slowing down on more than 4~ tabs, movies, music etc

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Asus preferably, but not Dell or Toshiba in any case
Also, NO AMD

What screen size do you require?
15"

What screen resolution do you require?
Not very important

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
Refurbished would be okay as long as it's under warranty

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
5~ hours

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
Mainly Steam/valve games (TF2, CS 1.6, CS:S), Need for Speed, GTA IV, Uncharted etc on medium-high but this is not important. I'm not buying this for gaming, it is not a major concern. As long as Valve games run, I'll be happy

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 7, but if a Macbook is recommended, that's fine as well

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Not important, but black/grey preferred and low profiled. Not too big like a gaming laptop (i.e Asus G73)

How much hard drive space do you need?
Not important, but more than 300gb preferred. I use an external HD regardless

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
No

Is there anything else we need to know?
I'd like to stay away from AMD, and from Toshiba/Dell. It needs to be portable, so I'm not looking for a gaming laptop the size of the Asus G73.

Thank you

What type of programming do you do and why does it matter, do you mean for compiling times or for a comfortable keyboard?
I love Corsair

dude you couldnt go wrong with any of these four and meet your requirments. if anything it gives you a guide to see what you can find

if need be to make your coding more comfortable, you can always get a desktop keyboard and mouse to connect to a lappy

thats a very nice notebook, any of the 3 cpus will do but i would prefer the I7 as its 4core/8thread which allows you with this notebook to support up 16GB RAM though start with 8GB and you have the headroom to upgrade. windows pro will do as i think ultimate is not really worth it that i can see. atleast a 7200rpm HDD, im not sure what they mean by 4 G SSD otherthan is it 4GB. smile.gif
