What are some good VGA coolers for a GTX 580?

Like the title says, what are some good VGA coolers for a GTX 580?

I'm looking because I'd like to overclock my 580's (yes I have two, and I will get to that point in a moment), but I'm getting tired of the constant BWWUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR from the fan.

I fold a lot and I keep my fans pretty high. Currently I'm only using one 580, but I will use two when I get my 2600k.
I will be using the Biostar TZ68K+ because it's cheap, a good overclocker, and reliable. Tator Tot said so.
Yes, I said cheap even though I have two GTX 580's and I'm getting a 2600k. doh.gif

What would the best cooler for two GTX 580's in SLI on that motherboard? An Accelero? A Gelid?
Thanks heart.gif

Why I have two GTX 580's with an Athlon II X4:
When I got my first GTX 580 I had really gotten into folding. I got my second in preparation for what I thought would be a the best, semi-cheap CPU: Bulldozer. Well, we know how that went. I did more research and ended up saying I'd get a 2600k. It took me this long to do all that research because I'm embarrassed to ask questions here, even though that's part of why it's up...and because I'm a dorkus. Soon though I will have my 2600k.
Thanks again for all the help. heart.gif

I'd certainly recommend the AC Accelero Xtreme Plus II cooler for your 580.
They work very well, and are quiet, even at 100% fan speed.

The memory/vrm sinks are a bit of a chore to install, but once it's done, the Accelero is an excellent cooler.
You'll have plenty of room in the HAF X case for one or two, but you would not be able to run two 580's with the Biostar board that you linked, it isn't a proper SLI board.

So, if you plan on running both 580's, you would need an SLI-capable motherboard.
The other thing to consider is that two custom-cooled 580's would need good pci-e slot spacing on the motherboard to clear each other and breathe properly.

I just installed an ASUS Maximus IV Extreme motherboard which has enough pci-e slot options for any video card configuration, but it isn't a low-cost board, they're in the $300 price range.

You could get by with a less-expensive SLI-capable board, as long as it has decent pci-e slot spacing, but the problem is that custom coolers such as the Accelero or Zalman are much thicker than the stock cooler, so in SLI the cards can get very close.

Good plan on going with the Sandy Bridge upgrade.
But you should choose a better motherboard for your build.

get the accelero xtreme plus II

I got one recently for my EVGA gtx 580. My temps at load were about 90-91c. Now with the accelero my temps stick around 60-65c and its SUPER silent... cant hear it over my case fans. Fairly easy to install as well. I found that the thermal G1 glue for the VRAM and VRM heatsinks took much longer to cure than it says. I let mine sit for 2 days to be sure. It does turn into a tape type of substance so it is nothing like epoxy and comes off very easily when needed. I couldnt be happier with my purchase of the accelero, you should jump on it.

also note if you need a motherboard to 2 580s in sli with this cooler they will take up 3 slots each. The ASUS p8p67 pro motherboard is capable of doing this and will still have some slots left.

That board only has 2 PCIe @x16/x4, even if it supports SLI still not a good choice. If you just need it to fold, it will be fine.

Pick a board with at leat 2 PCIe x8/x8 and minimum 3 PCIe slots spacing if you plan to replace the stock cooler with Accelero. That's the best cooler other than watercooling but will turn the card into a 3 slotter.

what ken said, i'd also chose something that doesnt use the first slot. If the Graphics car dis in the very first possible slot you might not even be able to use something like a silver arrow as your cpu cooler.

...would be a better choice for a similar price imo.

And yes, the Accelero Xtreme will be your best choice. since the Thermalright Shaman and Alpenföhn Peter/Deep Cool Dracula take up too much space for sli.

Whats a good cooler for the 580's? Here's a good cooler - http://www.overclock.net/t/1140299/gtx-480-sli-antec-620s-mod
Just grab an old crosair H70 or get an antec kuhler h20, mod it to fit your cards and away you go! tongue.gif

Sorry for the late response, guys.

Thank y'all for the help, and thanks for helping me know I'm good at overlooking things... doh.gif + redface.gif + rolleyes.gif

I've decided to go with the ASRock Extreme4 Gen3. I think I'll also go with the Accelero + backplates.
Do the Accelero's come with backplates? I'm thinking not, but I have EVGA bucks so I'll get some backplates...

Thanks also for the H70 mod idea...but I'm quite the newb and I'm still a bit timid when it comes to modding...

Thanks again and +rep all around. heart.gif
