Switched from AMD and have a memory question.

I replaced my 1090T with a new i7 2600K and bough 16GB of G.Skill RipJaw F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL RAM to go with it.

I've read that the Intel memory controller can't handle 1600mhz, which is fine. I'm not overclocking or anything like that. I'm more interested in stability. My question, when I install the RAM, set it to 1333 in the BIOS, it runs at 11-11-11-24, but the RAM is rated for 9-9-9-11. I'm not going to pretend to know if that really makes a difference, but I want the best speed without overclocking. Is the "11" setting fine, or should I manually change it to "9"? Are there any potential conflicts or problems in doing this?

i7 2600k
Asus p8z68-v pro

Thanks!

I don't know where you read that, but that cpu IMC will have zero problems running your ram at 1600. You will definitely be limiting your overclock potential with all that ram though. Change it to 1600 in bios and call it a day!

EDIT: It will be hard to sleep tonight knowing that bad ass system you have won't be overclocked...I beg you to reconsider! wink.gif

Intel memory controller can hadle 1600, you may just need to use xmp to get 1600 with your RAM. the IMC gets more stressed on voltage and is recomended at 1.5V RAM for sandy bridge. my ripjawsx cl8 1600 runs at 1600 8-8-8-24 with my i7 2600k by setting it to run at 1600 in bios smile.gif

I've seen posts on various forums that say Intel states the integrated memory controller can only handle 1333. Honestly, the memory stuff just makes my eyes glaze over. It seems way too complicated! I just don't want to fry anything.

lol... don't mean to cause any sleep issues.

So, 1600 and then setting it to 9-9-9-24 would be your suggestion?

I'm having trouble figuring out the XMP thing and how it works in my BIOS. I'll have to read more about that. The manual wasn't helpful.

Thanks to you both!

xmp may help if you set it to say profile 1, im not 100% sure of your BIOS but in mine its under the memory settings. alot people seem to have problems getting thier RAM to 1600 and its not them. they try everything but still no avail. so try find the XMP setting and try that, if not you might need to manually set the RAM multipler and maybe manually set each channel RAM settings to 9-9-9-24. keep posting back if nothing works smile.gif
