Dell Studio 1458 Screen replacement

Hey guys I just tried doing a screen replacement for a friend's Dell Studio 1458 and after installing the new screen i get a flashing underscore ( _ ) and it keeps beeping. I looked at the part numbers and I did notice a bit of a discrepancy in them but the specs on both screens are the same. Also after I reinstalled the old screen which was working but had a crack in it the display does not come up at all anymore.

We did contact the company he bought the screen from however they are stating that the model numbers in question should both be compatible with each other. Model numbers here for reference LP140WH4(TL)(C1) [New screen] and LP140WH1(TL)(A1) [Original cracked screen]. They both say LG on the back of them and are the same size, same resolution and etc.

Trying to figure out what the deal is with this laptop it was working overall fine just had a cracked screen. Is there some sort of reset switch or something or should I try returning the screen they gave me and getting the exact same model that is being replaced?

Hello,

I have the exact same problem, I replaced screen in costumers Dell Studio 1458 and get flashing underscore ( _ ) and it 8 beeps. One strange thing - if I push the laptop's power button it's stops beeping and goes to the screen with Dell logo and F2 and F12 on the bottom right corner. Than after blue line under Dell logo rich the end laptop turns off. So, I guess there is something inside Dell BIOS protects to using screens that come note from Dell. I contacted my vendor, where I usually ordering screen and they told me to send screen back and they replaced it for the right one. We'll see how it goes.

Yes that's exactly what was happening to his laptop. I think he ended up sending his in to Dell though. Let me know if you get it fixed so I know it's been bothering me a bit to know.
