[N4G] Are Video Games becoming too Expensive? - Page 2

Inb4 inflation, because games are NOT cheaper even when taking that to consideration. The dollar has inflated, but the majority of salaries have not. So, to someone that has earned a ~$30,000 yearly salary for several years, games should not be considered cheaper because of inflation.

OT: My gripe is with the DLC pricing and ridiculous DRM increases in price that really don't help to prevent piracy anyhow.
Yeah, selling a game at $50 is one thing, but to sell it for $50 and have DLC on release day that's almost $10 per download or whatever is just going too far IMO. I wish they would just keep things simple.

I went into Game yesterday and MW3 was £40. It was probably the only thing that wasn't reduced in price.
Most games were going for a maximum of £30(Console) and £20 (for PC) that I saw...
I got OF Red River for £6 and someone I know got some dance game for £8
When not during a sale, games usually £40 anyway.

The author of the article seems to be missing the sale deals tongue.gif

But £40 is almost all console games normal price, PCs normal price at (£30)
Although I still think they're selling for more than they should I don't seem them as bad as the article says.

Are video games too expensive?

Clearly not, as millions are still buying them. The prices will always be governed by market forces, they'll pretty much always cost whatever will make them most money.
i'm part of a development team, and my 2 cents, pennies whatever you like, is i think all games should be at most £15, with option downloadable content and items you can buy for the game, it's not any less greedy, but it lets the lower class citizens enjoy the same comforts that many middle-upper class people do, Our development team are releasing our game for free, it's an MMORPG, with options to buy extra items, that is how the business model should be for all games to be honest.

there should be more pricing schemes. triple A games can be 60 bucks, but lesser games should be like 40, or 30.

I was buying it at Walmart and the cashier put it in the bag of the lady in front of me. So that lady walked away with a $100 game without realizing it, and I just went to get another game.
I remember Nintendo games always being extremely pricey, at least $70 brand new and PS2/GC games being a lot cheaper at $50.

Seriously. I remember dishing out tons of money for SNES/N64 games. New games were $50-$70 depending on which console.

That said, Skyrim and BF3 are the last two games I remember paying full price for. Everything else I try and pick up on Steam sales, but that doesn't exactly work for consoles.

Yes. Near the end of the last gen consoles brand new games were £20-£30. It's now near the end of current gen consoles and brand new games are £50-£60

No. And this is why.. They come DOWN in prices not $1 or $5 but down to 30-40 dollars if you wait.. If you want a game but don't want to spend 59.99 do not buy the game and wait for it to come down 20 dollars or so because they do. If your saying WELL I DON'T wanna wait then pay the extra money most likely you like the game and will have your money earned back when you stay up 2 days playing it. The people who say they bought a game to found out it sucked I think is bull**** because all the resources nowa days you can know if you will like it or not before you buy it like live streams or youtube. It's not really just video games it's all items in general.. hell my Doritos that I love on a sunday went up now they are like 4.50 here in hollywood.

Umm, SNES games cost $90 back in the day, and that was 20 years ago. Factor in inflation and that $90 back in the 1990s is now ~$150.

So no, I think video games have gotten cheaper.
