Edit: Since it's dirt cheap (7,50 US dollars), I'm not expecting much. If I find it really isn't enough, I could always make one myself later on using some DIY projects one can find by searching on google.
It's not really going to do anything substantial just don't get it

The Fiio E3 is for low ohm easy to drive headphones like IEMs and Headphones with 32ohm that needs 70MW or lower voltage. The Ultrasone HFI-550 req much more then what the E3 can supply to be driven. if you needed something that was portable, a E11 Goes for 69 on amazon.that would been a better choice over the Fiio E3.

As said above, but I do strongly suggest looking into DIY amps. Very good amps out there for DIYers. I just don't recommend an amp for Ultrasones under the 900s.

OK, I see your point. I'll leave the amplification matter to later on, when I can afford the parts to make a decent one myself. Thanks for the input, guys thumb.gif

Turn of events...

It just so happens the hotel my sister is in does not accept shipments, so I'll be forced to stick to whatever I can find in the San Francisco/San Diego area. Does anyone know where one can get a pair of Ultrasone Pro 550s there?

Edit: I'm seeing a great deal on the Sennheiser HD598 on Best Buy. Could someone give me their opinion on those? Nevermind, just noticed it's sold out.

You pull the bell boy aside, slip him some money and say "I need you to purchase me Ultrasone Pro 550s and have them delivered to my room. I'd appreciate if you could do that for me." Don't forget to tip.

Works any time I need something delivered to me in a hotel, of course..I usually stay in a high end suite and the tip is quite gratuitous.

In this case, I think the the tip might exceed my budget tongue.gif

Any thoughts on the Sennheiser HD558s, though? I'm thinking of getting those.

Decision is yours. Remember, the HD558's lack bass almost as much as the AD700s (not quite that bad though).

It's not much of a decision, because as it is I don't have many options.

Edit: Has anyone tried the Senn PX 360s? If so, are they any good?

Without telling you an unnecessarily long story, I got the Ultrasone Pro 550's and am having a blast with them. I can only imagine what an amp and/or a good sound card will do to improve these. I expect to write a more detailed report (not an audiophile's review, mind you) on my impressions on these cans after they burn in for some more time, but I can tell you that, as my first entry level audiophile piece of equipment, I'm really loving them.

Thanks to everybody who contributed with their opinions thumb.gif
