Installing enw Processor?

Thread Starter
My friend has and old 1.1 pentium D processor and he was wondering how to install a new processor in his windows Xp computer. I don't know much about installing crap like this and I need to know if you need to change anything(like the motherboard or something) else to install a new processor in a computer.

Dose the motherboard support the new cpu, if it dose then there should not be a problem.

It all depends.

First, I am sure it's not a pentium D

I am pretty sure it's a Pentium III, and in order to upgrade seriously, he'll need basically a new system. His rig is totally outdated. He likely has SDRAM (not DDR), AGP (if not PCI), and then an old smallish hard drive.

I don't see any value in investing in that rig. Sorry My recommendation is to save up for a total new rig. For like $600 a really nice single core AMD rig can be built. (rough specs: AMD 3500+ AM2, 1GB DDR2 667 RAM, nVidia 7600GT, 80GB HDD)

Yeah, that whats I was telling him. Thanks for the help, but I'l also tell him that he might be able to upgrade his processor if he still really wants to.

If it's a Pentium III, I don't think there is much room for upgrades though... 1.1 GHz is about as fast as it gets for those.

Give me the brand / model of the motherboard, and we can go from there

Ok, let me know if you need help with composing it As I said, $600 can buy you a decent rig already.
