Where, oh where has my P8Z68-V PRO/GEN 3 serial number sticker gone?

Hi, need some help please (been saying that a lot for the last 5 weeks! Snorkle.gif

I'm out of RMA for Newegg by a week or two, board took forever to fail with hundreds of BSOD, never ran stable, finally BIOS stopped loading, black screen, no cursor, no nothing. Base tested, nothing, no post, no beep...so, call to those mostly non-friendly know-nothings at ASUS on weekend duty in Texas, and spent 10 minutes trying to find the sticker, no joy, then took a bunch of photos of the board and emailed it to them because I COULD NOT find the stinking sticker. They saw the sticker on the box in one of the photos and said "there it is!" (idiotic, I'd told them that wasn't the board, but the box ser no in the corner of the shot!) but they didn't read the email I guess and issued the RMA...but I believe without the ser no sticker, they won't honor it.

I do have a sticker with the board's ser. no. on the side of the box but they said you have to find it on the board or the RMA warranty is no good.

S000OOOooo... can anyone precisely locate that annoying little sucker for me? I know it didn't fall off, never saw it, but there are several stickers on the board, but not near the PCI slots, and nothing else matches the ser on the box, not even close. Very frustrating...I've read a lot of people have this problem with Asus, maybe it's a ploy to minimize their board returns? (Jeez, can't believe I'm getting that paranoid, but five weeks of troubleshooting a board, chasing down SDD problems etc., only to find out it's the board, plays havoc with one's equanimity.)

Meanwhile, I bought a new P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 on someone's recommendation, and will sell the pro/gen3 when/if it ever comes back from ASUS repaired or replaced.

thanks for the help!

hahaha...I'm cracking myself up.

After spending all that time yesterday, looking for the stupid sticker that those guys at ASUS told me was somewhere near the PCI slots, and shooting and emailing 10 shots of a variety of angles to them, I did some more digging on this site and saw where some folks had said to look at the bottom of the PCI slot.

"Alright," I said to myself, "self, get back up there for the fourth time and find that sticker! Stickers don't fall off, somehow, even though you've been a professional photographer for 30 years and have a sharp eye, you must have missed it."

I peered and pored all over the board...especially around the PCI slot. Someone in the forum had suggested it would be on the "bottom" of the slot, whatever that means. To me, it meant at the end of the slot, on the board. rolleyes.gif

NOOOO0000ooooo...it was there. It was on the side of the second PCI slot. So I can RMA the board after all, huzzah, huzzah. Life is good.

Guess who's the idiot? thumb.gif

Yeah.

Me.

But I'm posting this in case someone else, and there seems to be a lot of us, can't find that pesky sticker and the phone tech guys are clueless as to how to help you overcome your obvious myopia.

Good grief. I can't believe I missed it...although it's not an easy find...but jeez, I got so worked up about it.

Sigh.

Back to the normal craziness of troubleshooting funky boards and earning uncredited electrical engineer's degrees in the process.

Hey Benz, just noticed you're from Slovenia, I was there at the Pipistrel airplane factory in Oct doing a magazine story. Ajdoscina is the town I think, west part near Venice. Beautiful country, super people. Had a great time.

Made up for it...not.

Yep, those folks have a lot of confidence, but very friendly too, I enjoyed meeting all of them.

Yep it's windy there alright, there's hardly any day without wind blowing. Better luck next time if you come again smile.gif Ajdovscina is mostly a village so people there are calm, kind and friendly, but that isn't a case here in Ljubljana people here are arrogant, full of themselves and annoying. But some of them can be great. smile.gif
