Could you half the ram (40 dollar kit) and get Sandy Bridge instead?

A i5-2500k would be just as good as an i7-950, and has a better chipset.

Solid build, but I'd rather go with a 2500K platformed rig. Simply personal preference.

If this is a gaming rig I would do the following...

Go 1155
Games don't benefit from Hyper Threading. I would get a i5 unless you do something that needs a lot of CPU power
Go with 8GB of RAM. Also go with G.Skill memory if it is cheaper. Corsair (as much as I love them) charge to much for memory. You don't need 12GB of RAM for a gaming rig unless you use a LOT (like me) of background applications or some other program that needs a lot of ram.
Also check out the z68 ASrock boards you might like them.
... Now spend the extra money on a better GPU
