I tested by taping the heat sensors to the chips on my Sentry 2 fan controller.

I personally plan to put the shroud back on so that the original airflow out the back is there. Also possibly thermal tape some Memory IC sinks I have floating around to empty places on the PCB heatsink.

My intention was to put the shroud back on as well. Except for one problem. The cooler head will now block the airflow from flowing out the back. Plus I would also need to cut the side of the shroud to allow for the water lines. I did it on one and it came out a bit mutilated. So I just leave it off altogether.

Thanks doood! It took a little while for me to find the right thermal pad replacements. Frozen CPU has some nice Fujipoly in large sizes that I just cut to size and place. Cutting the pcb heat sink was pretty easy as well. It's a soft aluminum and cuts just fine with a dremal on low speed.

HAH! and I was going to have mine cut with a laser. I value your input.

I am also really set on getting the shroud back on. I have an upcoming upgrade and alot of paint work is going into it.

New case, possibly 2500K and board.

Case Painted white with black inside, white accents, white shroud, white fans casings, white memory heatspreaders, white psu sleeving...etc.

Maybe I will add some extra ventilation to the shroud.

I know the article is old but I believe it is still relevant...

Well it looks like I finally found somewhere that tells me at least the VRM temps. Vram I guess I'm not as worried about. I used OCCT for 20 minutes at 1.075V (1.025V stock) and 970MHz core, 2300MHz memory (850MHz, 2100MHz stock). Looks like from what I could tell using my thermal gun, temps are around 68C when benchmarking. I'd take into account a few C higher since the thermal gun isn't the greatest, so 70C. So if this review is telling me that VRM temps are reaching 120C...I'm definately fine on my VRM temps and I don't really have to be worried...I think

You're okay on VRM's

I'll be okay on VRM's.

VRM's are okay.

even some of the lowest quality voltage regulators are rated around 100C+. I've had 5870's that could still pull 1GHz with VRM's at 105C. We're going to be just fine. thumbsupsmiley.png

Surprised it fit. I need to get it cleaned up, before I reassemble it and apply some decent thermal paste. Temps are hardly going over 66C with 1v.
