I noticed that the 7970 excels in some games over current cards but sometimes its not really by much. I was considering the 7970 and selling my 580 but really at 1080p the 7970 gets about 3fps more than a 580 playing bf3 at max on a 1080p monitor. There are SOME games though where it can get about 10fps more.
Yeah but that's before overclocking and all that other jazz. The 7970 will do wonders with liquid cooling, or decent aftermarket cooling for that matter.
Regardless I think it's pointless to upgrade especially without DX12 support. Current cards in SLI/crossfire are more than enough to max out anything on the market, and will be until DX12 rolls out. Heck I'm still maxing everything out with my 5970.
