GTX 580 performance. - Page 2

You should have no problem maxing BF3 (specifically) with a 580 GTX on 1080p resolution.I overclock mine to around 840-850 on the core with 2x Anti Liasing with V-Sync on and it rarely goes below 50 fps. biggrin.gif
You should have no problem overcloking that lightning edition 580 gtx.Just remember to increase the fan speeds when overcloking thumb.gif

Yes sir and + rep for personal experience. Also what does V-Sync mean?

if their is a huge explosion then yes I will notice a small dip for a second but its fine. I usually turn of MSAA and just use post AA (fxaa) since it does not really impact performance at all. At that point I get steady 60fps with vsync on.

at 1080p the 7970 only gets about 2fps - 3fps more than a 580. ill get the benchmark to show you.

here is the bench, look at the 1920x1200, you will see little difference between the cards.

the 580 is decent with overclocking as well. i have an aftermarket cooler with a 1:1 fan ratio in afterburner and my temps never really go above 65c. My OC is 900Mhz core clock 900/1800/2025 @ 1.125v. I plan on pushing it further but just have not felt like it since I am happy with it as it is now.

MSAA stands for Multisampling Anti Aliasing it does remove the jaggies more brilliantly than the FXAA & will cause better image quality.

FXAA Stands for Fast-Approximate Anti Aliasing It does remove jaggies but not as good as MSAA, But it doesn't cause the same performance hit as the MSAA. In Battlefield 3 you can turn them both on to enhance image quality. But will cause a noticable fps hit. or You can activate FXAA only and turn off MSAA to gain some fps with nice image quality.

It seams like you have your mind pretty made up. I not rep begging hear but everyone suggesting the 580 gets a rep+ when they are trying to talk you into keeping a slower card (I think they are just answering your question regarding BF3 performance but it seems to be persuading you to keep the slower card.)

My advice. Keep the 580 because you want that card more, just don't look at any 7970 benchmarks and you will be non the wiser. ignorance is bliss.

keep the 580 and grab a second one for sli wink.gif its what im doing. When kepler comes out the 500 series will drop in price so you can get a sli setup and it will be faster than a single 7950... although a Crossfire 7950 might be a little bit faster than sli 580s.... what difference are you going to notice between 80 fps and 90fps.... you probably wont notice anything because you will have vsync on to prevent screen tearing and you will only see 60 fps regardless.
