I respect peoples choice of fps but I cant when said people try to sell me the idea that 30 fps gives blood borne a cinematic feeling. That's just rubbish reasoning.
No reasonable gamer would argue for 30 fps in blood borne.

Its not the sight as much as it is the "feel". 60fps "feels" smoother. Its incredibly noticeable when you're playing FPS games and constantly looking around. I'm ok with 30fps in some games, but not games that require precision aiming and inputs.

Would love to check how many i can actually see, but sadly I'm bound to 120Hz screen refresh rate.

The reason a game feels smoother, if u render more frames than your monitors refresh rate, is simply that the displayed frame is "newer".
If u render 300fps in a game (e.g. CS:GO) on a 60Hz screen, every refresh cycle has 5 available frames to display, and obviously it will display the "newest" 5th frame.
That's what makes your game look smoother, even if your screen can only display 60fps.

If you are running with vsync, you'll only get 60 fps.

If you aren't using syncing, you'll get pieces of five frames on one display refresh, with some tearing if the motion of the scene, or relative to the scene, is significant.

As far as i know, not if there is a fully rendered newer frame available that can be displayed. never used v-sync and never had tearing issues even at high frame rates. I could be wrong though - only human rolleyes.gif

As soon as a new frame is sent to the display, the display will start drawing it, even if it's been drawing another frame, it doesn't just keep the most recent frame. Indeed, if it did, it wouldn't have enough time to draw much of anything at higher frame rates.

Absent some method of synchronization, tearing is always present, even if you don't notice it.
