The G500's weight system does add couple grams to the product even when the tray is not in place. This feature is popular because many people feel that mice like the G400 are far too light. Both consumer and journalist reviews of the product ding it for that - even though low weight is a highly requested feature from enthusiasts.
Angle Snapping isn't simply bad, it's just preference, that's why it imho was kind af a stupid move to design the G400 without the option to update/swap sroms, I doubt that you are perfectly happy with the situation that there are 2 versions of the G400 out there.
I don't like those weight systems either but for me the bigger problem than the couple of extra grams is that most of those systems screw up the balance.
