I'm surprised there is that many iPhone users. I mean...iOS is only on a single refreshed phone, while Android is on a plethora of devices from all different manufacturers and varying price points.

iPhone is popular because it's popular. and popular people use it. Simple as that.

The reason so many iPhone's have been sold is because people like the OS, the hardware, and the aesthetics. The same is true why any other smartphone sells.

But a large part of the market share is because of it's popularity, the ads, the word of mouth, the fact that most electronics stores have 1 large display for just the iPhone then 1 large display for ALL the other phones. Makes it seem exclusive, like a VIP kind of thing.

It's marketed very well but the only reason it's popular is because it lives up to the expectation of the consumers buying it. There's plenty of great Android smartphones but they aren't marketed nearly as well. Whether the consumer prefers Android or iOS is up to them, but if both are acceptable, the one with the best marketing wins.

Well the only reason people buy iphones is that they have no idea what they want in a phone, their friends have one, or they saw it on tv

the reason people buy androids is because they know exactly what they want in a phone or have no money for the iphone

It would be impossible for stores to have displays for every make of Android phones. There's just not enough space. Although, if you walk through a Best Buy, it's way easier to find the latest Android phone than it is iPhone.

But, I'm sure if Samsung plopped down some money for store real estate, stores would oblige. Same for Moto, HTC, LG, etc etc. Just like Apple is now doing with Target. You guys also seem to forget that Android phones also compete with each other, not just Apple. It's not like Samsung and Moto have some sort of profit sharing going on with Android phones. Samsung's market share rose at the detriment of Moto, LG, and HTC...not Apple.

Everyone seems to get so mad at Apple for their advertising and store presence, but it's what any competitive company would do. Ad campaigns by Samsung and Motorola are just awful. Lasers, lightening bolts, kick boxing robots....who are these companies trying to appeal to? Because it's not the masses. Motorola Xyboard?? Who names these things?
